SALE ALERT: Anthropologie

Anthropologie has some of the best sweaters around.  I love to lust after their quirky details and unique patterns.  But lusting is about as far as I get because they are usually way beyond my budget.  But when Anthropologie has a sale, they have a sale.  We're talking 50% and more off certain pieces.  It is definitely worth checking out the selection and then indulging in some lust-worthy pieces.  And it's not just sweaters that are marked down...

Economical Makeup Remover

babyshampoo

I like this tip I found in this month's Cosmo:

Skimp on makeup remover. "Johnson's Baby Shampoo with No More Tears formula is a great, gentle way to take off your eye makeup. A big bottle costs less and lasts much longer than tiny bottles of actual eye-makeup remover." - Kimara Ahnert (11/08, pg. 211)

Makes perfect sense! I hate the idea of spending money on an eye makeup remover - I don't wear enough of it on a regular basis to justify the expense. But when I do need it, I always curse that I don't have any. Having a bottle of baby shampoo around to both gently wash my hair and to remove heavy eye makeup sounds like win-win.

Thrifting and You

Do you thrift? I'm in a play right now and one of my fellow castmates has the best sense of style and the most unique pieces of clothing. How does she do it? She's a thrifter. Some people have the enviable knack of being able to put together outfits and seeing the potential of clothes that most people would just look past. Ali, in my cast, has this knack. Tavi the blogger is always showing off her thrifty finds - if you haven't checked her out yet, it's time you do. My good friend Tia has the ability to put clothes together like no other.

thrifting

So what's a girl to do if she doesn't have this natural ability thrift and thrive, but she covets it?  I say cultivate it! Do you have a friend with the style knack? Go shopping with her! I also love the idea of making yourself your own style folder with looks you want to create. Tear pictures from magazines and catalogs, print pics of celebrity style you like. Then take the folder with you when you thrift. Need even more inspiration? Type "thrifting blogs" into google and you will find a plethora of blogs dedicated to the art. There has never been a better time to thrift than now, with the economy and with the green movement. Recycling clothes is good for your wallet and for the environment!

Dark Nails are Hot

eiffel

I treated myself to a mani/pedi yesterday for the first time since 2007 and it was decadently wonderful. If you're in LA, I highly recommend treating yourself to Pampered Hands on Melrose - they have two people working on you at once, which means at one point I had dual massages going on - no! - triple massages going on if you count the massaging chair and I thought, Yes. A girl could get used to this.

I chose the OPI shade of Eiffel for This Color, which is this brilliant deep plum that looks almost black when it's applied. But when you look closely you can see the purple hue. It's a matte color though - it's not a shimmery, iridescent shade that changes as light hits it. For some reason, OPI describes it as a "wine shimmer" but I don't see that at all. It's just a rich, multi-faceted color that looks super sexy and just might be my new go-to shade of the season.

Exciting Bare Mineral News!

leslie

Bella Sugar did an interview this week with Leslie Blodgett, founder of Bare Minerals, and Leslie revealed some exciting news:

They are coming out with a moisturizer in January!

I am psyched about this for several reasons.  One, I'm a huge fan of Bare Minerals, so new products are always exciting.  Two, their moisturizer is almost guaranteed to be gentle on sensitive skin and sure to be quenching.  And C.,  since Bare Minerals already makes my skin look flawless I'm excited to see how prepping my skin with mineral-packed moisture is going to make me look!

Plaid in the City

katie

Katie Holmes was out and about with Suri yesterday in the NYC.  For some reason this picture really makes me miss New York - it's really inexplicable but it has something to do with the sidewalk and slight gray to the day and the way the weather looks like it's cool and warm all at once.

But I digress.

I write because I'm a sucker for plaid, especially red plaid.  I'm also a sucker for a tunic style shirt.  And I love how Katie's cinches in at the waist.

21

So, behold my little find over at Forever 21 that is a gingham pattern but is still red and has it's own waist-cinching belt.

Now if I could only find a free ticket to NYC for a lovely autumn weekend....

Vitamin Shampoo is Fooling Us

vitamin shampoo

We've come across this ad in several magazines here at Latest Beauty headquarters and totally thought that Vitamin Water was now in the shampoo business.  We've been had!  And Vitamin Water is not happy about it.

According to Fashionista, they have nothing to do with this product and are in the process of suing.  Interesting enough, if you go to VitaminShampoo.com, they have already changed the look of the bottles, but not by much....fishy!  Have you tried this shampoo out yet, under the guise that Vitamin Water was producing it?  I was planning on checking it out but it's kind of lost its appeal.  What do you think?

Madonna's Killer Fashion

madonna

(Photo: People)

Check out Madonna's killer heels! These are actual Chanel heels from the 2009 Resort Collection that will be in boutiques in the coming year. I actually think they are really fun but I'm not sure I'd ever wear them. They seem like the type of shoe Madonna can pull off but in real life...they're a little much. They would actually be fun for Halloween though - I would love to be a high-fashion gangster in these bad boys.
