Pluck, Wax or Draw
Date: 09/26/2008 1:50 PM / Category: Beauty, Gadgets, Review
Rating: 0.0/10.0 (0 votes) As I was grooming my brows this morning, I got to wondering about how most women keep their eyebrows in check. For me, I check my brows out every morning and pluck away any strays. I used to get my eyebrows waxed but I got the best wax ever about five years ago and I haven't felt the need to wax again. My waxer gave my brows the best shape for my face and since then it has been easier to just do daily maintenance to keep my brows looking just right. I didn't mean for this to happen. I fully intended to be waxed again. But waxing requires growing the hair out a bit and it also requires money. I was a struggling actress in NY so I couldn't look scraggly between waxings (in case I had an audition) and I also couldn't afford regular waxing appointments, due to the whole struggling thing. So I've been converted to a daily plucker.
But what about you? Are you a daily plucker? Do you get your brows waxed regularly? Do you draw on your brows? Do you do any kind of brow upkeep? Curious minds want to know! {poll id="247"}

Play in the Rain with These Boots
Date: 09/26/2008 1:15 PM / Category: Fashion
Rating: 0.0/10.0 (0 votes) These are some of the chicest rain boots I've seen. When I lived in NYC, I loved a good pair of galoshes to navigate through the rain and snow but too often I didn't know what to do with them once I got to my destination. My galoshes, while being neutral black, never looked chic enough to pull off as regular footwear. But these London Fog beauties with their subtle quilted pattern and the streamlined patent toe, combined with the lace-up detail in the front take these to the next level of wearability. Over leggings or with jeans tucked into them, these are a pair of boots you could wear rain or shine. Plus they are only $69 - a great price for a great pair of boots. And I know my friends in The Big Apple are getting some major rain this weekend... View Entry
Method Olive Leaf Body Wash

Rating: 0.0/10.0 (0 votes) I'm a sucker for a cool looking bottle and this one caught my eye on a recent Target trip. The texture of the bottle is pretty cool too. But it was the appeal of the spa-like scent that got me to purchase this body wash. I used it this morning for the first time and it lathers up wonderfully and my perpetually dry skin feels dewy and fresh. I'm excited about this new body wash find and I wanted to share. The best part? It's made by Method, which means it is environmentally friendly, never tested on animals and the bottle I like so much is completely recyclable. Yay for Green. And I know the link to the product says it's $10, but Target sells it for like $5.99. Yay for Target. View Entry
Purple Shooties

Rihanna, The Designer
Date: 09/25/2008 1:35 PM / Category: Fashion, People
Rating: 0.0/10.0 (0 votes) Rihanna is joining the ranks of celeb fashion designers. She confirmed last night at the Gucci show in Milan that she has been thinking about designing a line and that now it is definitely going to happen. No timeline yet on when to expect RiRi's clothes, because she doesn't like to rush into anything, but I'm pretty excited to see what she churns out. Her own personal style is edgy and playful and one that is always interesting. She takes an invested interest in fashion too, always being present at the shows, so hopefully she's taking notes! I'll keep you posted as this develops. In the meantime:

REVIEW: M.A.C. Pro Longwear Lipcolour
Date: 09/24/2008 3:01 PM / Category: Makeup, Review
Rating: 0.0/10.0 (0 votes) On Emmy Sunday I was wearing a great purple dress that I wanted to pair a bold lip color with for my makeup to look perfect. The problem was I wasn't going to have time throughout the day to worry if my lips were still the right color and looking just right. So I decided to give my MAC Pro Longwear Lipcolour another shot. I originally bought this lip product for my wedding last year but I didn't end up wearing it. Commitment, the shade I chose, was (ironically) too dark of a color for the day. And I've tried wearing it again over the year but it always seemed to flake off. But I'm all about second (and third and fourth) chances with makeup so on went the lipcolor at 9:00 a.m. The trick was to really allow the lip color to completely dry before applying the gloss. I put on the lip color and waited about twenty minutes before swiping on the gloss.
Highly Recommended! (PS - Like my headset? Next time I'm at the Emmy's I won't be working. I'll be workin' it on the red carpet!) (PPS - Like how my skin looks kind of flawless? Trust me, it's not. It's Bare Minerals, baby!) View Entry

The Presenter's Gift Lounge, produced by On3, at the Emmy's this past weekend was the place to be for many a star (and me!). For each celebrity that visited the lounge, Bertolli made a donation to two charities, Dreamstreet and Girls Inc., and they were able to donate $50,000! So what was at this illustrious gift lounge? I told you about Oprah's favorite, TrueJeans.com, yesterday and that is Nicolette Sheridan checking out the denim above. D'Annuzio Diamonds had a beautiful array necklaces and earrings to offer, which Christina Applegate is checking out in the mirror. Jo Anne Worley loved her necklace so much that she actually wore it during the show in her Laugh-In bit. Carlos Falchi had one-of-a-kind handbags, including some of the cutest clutches, that Vanessa Williams is displaying above. What stood out most about the Carlos Falchi bags were the bright colors - not one bag was black. Having a bright bag is the easiest way to liven up your outfit! David Boreanaz couldn't resist a hand massage at the Phyto Universe, which featured Lierac and Phyto products. I'll be bringing you reviews on all those goodies - hair products, skincare and more - in the weeks to come and I'll also show you the goody bag that the celebs received soon. And I absolutely love this picture of Marcia Cross trying on her Koolaburra boots, in her gorgeous gown. Koolaburra also had these great boots with fringe that I was coveting. Sarah Paulson took a pair of those and you can see them, along with tons more pics, over at the Access Hollywood Gallery. And this is just a sampling of the goodies the stars received. There were also LeSportsac bags that Stella McCartney designed, Aquaswiss watches, Nespresso machines (that makes the best espresso I've ever tasted), AMC year-long movie passes, custom Palm phones, and more. It was an exciting event and I can't wait until I'm an actual guest that gets to "shop" the lounge...next year, maybe? In the meantime, it's fun to know the "latest" that the stars will be sporting around town. Keep your eyes peeled for the stars wearing their gifts all around town! At this point she was on her way out of the gift lounge, which means she had already made her way around to see what all the sponsors had to offer (including the lovely sunglasses she is sporting in this pic). The presenters were given awesome gifts, including diamonds, one-of-a-kind purses, beauty products and more that I'll tell you all about later this week. But I'm about to give you the inside scoop about what Oprah was gushing about right after she took this picture and was on her way out the door:
That TrueJeans.com, that is fantastic. I love that! You heard it here first and you're sure to hear about it again. Oprah loves TrueJeans.com. So what is TrueJeans.com? It is this awesome website that matches you to your perfect jeans by considering your measurements and your style preferences and then recommending the best jeans for you. They carry the best designer brands (7 For All Mankind, Lucky Brand, Paige Premium, etc.) and they have fantastic lines that you may not have heard of yet (Red Engine, Little in the Middle, etc.) totaling 27 brands to find your best fit. Based on your measurements and how these brands cut their jeans, they match you to the ones that are going to be most flattering to your figure.
Finding jeans that fit "just right" is a problem most of us face. It is nearly impossible for me to find jeans that fit. I actually describe my body type as "little in the middle, but she got much back," so I'm super excited to see if Little in the Middle brand is right for me. Jessica, the co-owner of TrueJeans.com, says that I should also look into Red Engine for my body type so I certainly will. And as soon as I measure myself and plug those numbers into my profile, TrueJeans will tell me exactly which jeans are best. The website explains exactly where to measure on your body and it only takes a few minutes. I'll put together my profile tonight and let you know which jeans end up being right for me. In the meantime, you should do your own measuring if you want to find the best jeans for you before the Oprah-frenzy starts. Because you know how whatever Ms. Winfrey likes, Ms. Winfrey creates a frenzy for. Just click on the TrueJeans logo and you'll be taken there. Here's your chance to be ahead of the frenzy-curb and find your best jeans, before they sell out! View Entry
My Fave Emmy Dresses
Date: 09/23/2008 2:05 PM / Category: Beauty, Entertainment, Fashion, People
Rating: 0.0/10.0 (0 votes) Here is biggest thing I learned from being at the Emmy's this year: There is no such thing as "worst-dressed." You might want to argue with me on this one, but let me explain. There is a reason these women pick the dresses that they do: The dresses are exquisite in person. Decandently beautiful. And pictures do not do them any justice. So while some may not photograph as well as others, these women have not lost their senses and picked dresses that are somehow "bad." And since it is true that there is no such thing as an "ugly" dress at the Emmy's, it is then also true that the most beautiful dresses are so much more exquisite in person. Case in point: Marcia Cross's dress. Her gown took my breath away. I escorted her to the gift lounge and therefore shared an elevator with her and her husband. In this small space I was able to closely examine her dress. This Elie Saab Haute Couture gown had the most intricately beautiful flowering embroidery, that literally radiated due to the gold accents. Of course, the camera didn't capture the golden touches. And her Hearts on Fire diamond earrings were these flawless flowers that perfectly complemented the design of the dress. The color of the dress warmed her porcelain skin and the choice of dark polish on her nails gave this fairytale look a slight edge, grounding the fantasy. Her dress was by far one of my favorites of the evening. Another dress that took my breath away was Olivia Wilde's Reem Acra gown. It was a romantic dream of a dress that was beautifully tailored to her figure. The creamy-silver-y color made Olivia glow and reminded me of moonlight. The sleeves made from draped beading took this dress to the next level of intricacy that makes a gown truly special.
It's hard to pick out my faves because everyone looked so beautiful. But there are a few other lovely ladies that caught my eye. Jenna Fischer (her dress flowed like water and the pictures do her no justice), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (perfectly fem and saucy) and the big winner of the evening, Tina Fey (she looked like a bombshell!) all looked fabulous. I'm a sucker for a cool looking bottle and

Christina Applegate was also wearing a Reem Acra gown and while it is very different from Olivia's, it is no less stunning. It was such a welcoming sight to see Christina looking happy and healthy after all she has been through this year and she chose the perfect gown to showcase her road to recovery. The light blue captured the light in her eyes and the gold floral print made this dress worthy of royalty. The body-conscious silhouette accentuated her feminity while the dramatic train added intrigue and elevated the dress to the occasion. Christina went with dark nails, like Marcia, to ground the whole look. She looked radiant.
