These are my standard, go-to ballerina flats. They are comfortable, versatile, easy to slip on and off - everything you could possibly want in a pseudo ballet slipper. And then I opened a door into my foot. Yes, you read that correctly: I opened a door into my own foot! And no, not for the first time...but at least this time there was no blood involved. Why? Because my beloved shoes took the bullet for my toes! The leather on the toe of the left shoe is now severely torn, all the way through and right down to the lining. They actually look somewhat acceptable from a distance, but I know I won't be able to live with a gaping wound in my ballet flats for long. They need to be mended, or they need to be replaced. And then it occurred to me: This could be an opportunity for a little shoe experimentation! Why get the same pair of basic black flats again when I could go a little crazy?! Here a few of my favorites so far:

These impossibly shiny silver slippers with black piping and bow by Marc Jacobs put an almost futuristic spin on the look, thanks to the gleaming silver lamé. The Clementine ballet flats by Frye are very ruby slipper - plus, I love the ankle strap. And, finally, the plum velvet of the Delman flats is just so cozy and luxurious.
Okay, so all of these flats are a bit on the expensive side - try $136 and up! - so I'm really just daydreaming here. But I do need a replacement pair of ballet flats.
Do you have a favorite pair of flats? Do you like flats that are simple and basic, or do you prefer something a little fancier? Thoughts, suggestions, and links to cute shoes are welcome!
