Curves. They are on the rise. For so long being skinny was the standard for beauty. No, being a stick figure was the standard. Slowly but surely though, a woman's curves are being more embraced by the industry again. J-Lo started the trend (over ten years ago) and finally the landscape is beginning to truly change. More women are not compromising their feminity and are standing proud, flaunting what their mama gave them. I think this explains the rise of cinched waists seen all over the runways. Creating an hourglass figure is more and more desirable. It's even recommended to start belting the shift dresses - you know the ones that make you seem like you have no figure? So I just wanted to applaud the women with curves that are bringing sexy back and forcing the industry to change their ways. Even though we still have a ways to go (remember how the media said Jennifer Love Hewitt was fat? Give me a break), I can smell the change. These women are all still thin, but healthy thin. The advertisements that are cropping up are a good indication. From Dove's Real Women campaign to Burt's Bee's latest Natural ad: soft, healthy curves are beautiful. We may not all have the curves these women have, but the trend is to embarce what you do have! So enjoy the photos...and embrace what makes YOU beautiful.
