I love browsing around on the Payless website from time to time to check out their New Arrivals section; they don't always have something that catches my eye, but when I do find a great pair of shoes there, I feel like I've won the lottery! It's a fantastic way to experiment with trendier styles, since their shoes are usually priced somewhere in the $10-$25 range (less if you catch then on sale!). When I find something I like, I wear them until they literally fall apart, and I relish every compliment I receive because it's so much fun to tell people, "Thanks, I found them at Payless! They were $12!" Here are two very different pairs that grabbed my attention today:
These sexy linen platforms with black piping were created by alice+olivia (who I previously mentioned in my Designer Invasion blog) for Payless. I love the height, the contrast between the neutral linen and the hot pink insole, and the wee buckle on the strap - seriously, when it comes to shoes, it's the little things! These would really complement denim skirts or jeans, and I can totally see myself living in them this summer. I'm actually desperately in need of a new pair of platform sandals, since my last pair - also from Payless - finally fell apart on me a few months ago. (In case you're wondering, they were under $20 and they lasted for about 4 years, so yes, I definitely got my money's worth!)
I'm also completely enamored of this sizzling pair of metallic turquoise pumps from Patricia Field, the infamous Sex and the City stylist who basically created the contemporary fashion icon that is Carrie Bradshaw. I just love the classic shape of the shoe, the rounded toe, the almost-futuristic metallic gleam and, above all, the color. In fact, I'm a bit disappointed that this shoe only comes in two shades: Turquoise and gold. No hot pink, no purple, no silver?! Seems like a missed opportunity to me. Still, I love them. Remember Jem and the Holograms? (Fellow children of the '80s will know what I'm talking about.) These are total Jem shoes!
Need another reason to become a Payless convert? Both pairs are $35, which means that you're eligible for free shipping (on all orders over $50) if you order them online before June 16th. Just choose "standard ground" as your shipping method and you won't be charged any shipping fees at checkout! See? The commercials were right! It does feel good to pay less.
