Review: SPINLASH

PRODUCT:  SpinLash

CLAIMS:  “The gentle motion of the rotating brush removes clumps with every turn while it separates, coats, lengthens, and volumizes your lashes. Get perfect lashes every time!”

RESULTS?

MEAGAN:  Um…what is this supposed to do again?  Yes, the brush spins.  But I thought the wand was supposed to be part of the application process.  Not so!  “When using Spinlash with your own brand (of mascara), apply with your brand’s brush.  Then use Spinlash to comb through lashes.”  Um…so basically it is a spinning eyelash comb.  And it doesn’t do anything different than my lash curler and brush already do.  Plus!  It says to discard after 90 days.  This thing is $15!  I thought I was investing in a long term beauty tool.

MELISSA: Oh, Spinlash…you let me down. I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed! Seriously, though, I thought this thing was going to give me amazing, clumpless, slightly curled and totally separated lashes. Instead, it just twirled slowly near my eyeball, which was a little scary, and it didn’t do anything that I can’t do myself every morning with a tube of Great Lash and a little lash comb. Also, one of their main selling points is that Spinlash can be used with any brand of mascara, which sounds great – until you read the instruction booklet and realize that you’re not supposed to use the Spinlash to apply any brand of mascara except for their own. You’re just supposed to put your mascara on regularly and use the Spinlash to comb through your lashes afterwards! I call false advertising.

PROS:

MEAGAN: It’s fancy.

MELISSA: Every person I’ve talked to about this thing said something to the effect of, “Whoa, a spinning mascara applicator?! Sounds…dangerous.” And then they wanted to know if it worked! So I guess it could be a good conversation piece, right? Tote it around in your bag and bust it out when there’s a lull in the conversation. At least that way you’ll get some use from it.

CONS:

MEAGAN:  It doesn’t do anything.  It is ineffective.  It is expensive.

MELISSA: Unwieldy – not just because it spins, but because the handle is much thicker and harder to grasp and maneuver than your standard mascara brush. Not intended for use with your favorite brand of mascara. The mascara it comes with is subpar. And it didn’t even remove my clumps!

FINAL WORD:  Save your $$/Save your $$

It sounds so enticing. I might buy it just for the novelty of a spinning applicator...

Thanks for the reply, Bridget! We're glad that you're working to improve Spinlash. There's a lot of buzz about it in the beauty world right now, and we hope that eventually it'll live up to our expectations. We would love to review any future prototypes for you. Let us know when something new becomes available!

Thanks for your input - without it our product will not improve. Oh, I work for SPINLASH :-). We do not want to be deceptive and we are learning where and how SPINLASH is best used. We are constantly working to improve the formula as well as the mascara application experience. Stay tuned for product enhancements.  We appreciate your candor! - bridget
