PRODUCT: Bare Minerals Beyond the Basics
CLAIMS: “Not all minerals are created equal” – to be the best mineral makeup on the market. And it has a massive cult following to back that up.
RESULTS?
MEAGAN: I was skeptical. And we got the “Beyond the Basics” kit that I thought was just a clever pun – but really it means beyond the basic foundation that you are supposed to already have from Bare Minerals. We were missing a step, so I was even more skeptical.

But… I LOVE IT. I am obsessing over it – their concealer minerals actually cover my red burst capillary between my eyes. Nothing does that. And it continued to cover it throughout the day, even after my sweaty walk home, wearing sunglasses that are guaranteed to wipe concealer away. My husband noticed immediately - he thought Melissa and I actually went somewhere to get our makeup done. And he commented several times throughout the day on how beautiful I looked. The Bare Minerals just gives a beautiful polished look, enhancing your features. It is worth every penny. I am a new cult member of Bare Minerals.
MELISSA: Meagan, I agree! I was skeptical at first too. When I was watching you apply it, I remember thinking, “That’s…it? It’s just powder!” I remember you even remarked at one point, “Well, it’s nice, but I don’t think it’s going to change my life.” But then somewhere between the Summer Bisque and the Bare Radiance, my mind was changed. Your makeup looked incredibly done, but not over-the-top or obvious. I knew I had to try it for myself! Even over the (much lower quality, ahem) L’Oreal mineral makeup I was already wearing, Bare Minerals did the trick. I agree that the concealer was the best product in the package; we both loved how you can layer it and layer it, building to the necessary amount of coverage, without getting any of that nasty cakey-makeup effect. You may think a powder can’t possibly provide enough coverage for your skin issues, but trust me – it can! Call me a convert; I need this product!
PROS:
MEAGAN: Easy to do. Flawless coverage. Makes me feel beautiful.
MELISSA: Allows you to obtain the kind of flawless complexion usually reserved for women with access to professional makeup artists – only you do it yourself, and in about two minutes flat! Also, the concealer is truly incredible, and practically worth the purchase price on its own. Oh, and the brushes are surprisingly high quality.
CONS:
MEAGAN: Cost is higher than I normally spend (but I'm going to start spending!)
MELISSA: The pots of mineral powder are tiny, and the nature of the “Swirl, Tap, Buff” application process means that precious minerals are lost every time you “tap” the brush to remove the excess! Considering the cost, I would probably have to reserve Bare Minerals for special occasions, not everyday use. Kind of a bummer…but a small price to pay to look flawless when it counts!
