I love shirtdresses. I think they're great for daytime, because they're pretty but not overly sexy; they're easy to accessorise (shoes, bag, go!); and they're flattering on women of all shapes and sizes, as long as the fit is correct (make sure the dress isn't too tight across the bust, since this style usually involves buttons in that area, and there is nothing worse than literally bursting your buttons!). This kicky little green number to the right is by Anthropologie, but there are all sorts of cute shirtdresses to choose from this spring.
One of my favorite takes on the trend comes from Nine West.
Unexpected details like an empire waist, wide lapels, pleats and cap sleeves really set this dress apart. I also love that there are no buttons on the bust, making this a much more forgiving style for those of us who are a bit larger on top.

The ruffles on the bodice are a fun little detail, and it comes in khaki, which is a very hot color for spring. Dress it up with a pair of vibrant sandals or heels, or a colorful bag.

It looks so relaxed and easy-to-wear, and the belt (included) is a great touch. I could imagine this with ballet slippers or a pair of flat, barely-there strappy sandals.
