Title: Scary skin gadget: The DermaRoller
Category:
Blog Entry: If anyone understands the misery of perpetual skin issues, it's me. I've suffered from intermittent bouts of acne of varying degrees of severity for the past 15 years or so - believe me when I say that I can sympathize with that desperate, I'll-do-anything feeling when it comes to skin care solutions. But when I came across this DermaRoller by Leaf & Rusher, I knew I had to draw the line. First of all, it's $98. Ninety-eight dollars just for the roller, not for any accompanying products or anything! But even more horrifying than the price tag is the product description: "An innovative rolling device, designed to maximize the benefits of your Leaf & Rusher skin care products. Nearly 200 stainless steel micro points create channels for easier absorption of vitamins, enzymes, lipids and other nourishing ingredients. " Additionally, the DermaRoller promises to "stimulate the skin's natural renewal process." And guess how? By puncturing your skin with hundreds of tiny needles! This sounds incredibly unsafe. If such a device is necessary at all - which I seriously doubt, since the pores themselves already provide "channels" for the absorption of products into the skin - then surely its use is best left to a professional in a medical setting. I don't see how this can be anything other than a recipe for infection and scarring. Thoughts? {poll id="112"}
